The round liner is often used for these tattoo styles: Dotwork, all complex lines, lettering, Japanese, Traditional and Neo Traditional, Geometric, Tribal or Samoan.
What size needle should I use for tattooing? Depending on the effect you want, 3RL, 5RL and 7RL (Round Liner) are the sizes most commonly used for drawing fine to medium lines. The higher the number, the thicker the line. For example, with 9RL and above, you'll get thicker lines.
